Resuscitation: The project, Banking On Ruin(s), grows out of the phenomenon of losing a thing rather than a person. It deals with powerlessness and feeling guilty for mourning materialistic loss. Self-pity soon developed into empathy for structures of the past, specifically at Belle Isle in Richmond, that have not been assigned importance and are anti-monuments of entropy. I honor these structures by creating sculptural objects that share their forms and various imperfections. The precarious construction and temporal materials, such as cardboard and tape, imbue these objects with vitality and humanity. These sculptures are tragic, because they are fleeting monuments to structures that will long outlast them in a state of ongoing decay.

In the printed works, Eco-Avenger (myself in product packaging armor) and the misfit animals from Richmond’s Maymont Park take a mythical journey to Belle Isle. The structure and technique of the prints lend to the narrative as in the Greatest (Sacrifice) Of All Time, the spray painted character G.O.A.T begins to spill from his lines into the cool surroundings as he resigns to his fate. The Maymont animals and structures of Belle Isle have been stripped of their original identity. This narrative enables them to find one another and create a new identity for Richmond and themselves.
